BUILDING INDUSTRY

Building industry belongs to traditional areas of polyvinyl acetate dispersion applications. In principle, they are applied in four main areas:

Polymeric binder - dispersions are added as one of the components of polymer-cement mixtures (concrete,     mortar, cement, remediation materials, etc.)
Primers - penetration materials - after diluting in water (some types without diluting), they are used to impregnate absorbent substrates prior to bonding, plastering, scraping, self-leveling flooring, underlayment etc.
Dispersion building adhesives - ready-to-use products with high tack and maximum ageing resistance of glued joint.
Building-carpenter adhesives - products intended for gluing of solid wood as well as wood chipboards.

Polymeric binders

Polymeric binders

Polymeric binders and additives are added directly to the building mixter along with water, consisting of up to 5 % of the final cement weight /lime hydrate. They form a polymeric grid in the building mixture and thus greatly influence the properties of the building compounds:

They greatly improve the properties that are important when applying the building mixture:

- Improve the processability of the mixture,
- increase the cohesion of the mixture,
- improve surface smoothing and the leveling ability,
- reduce segregation and separation of water from the mixture (perspiration).

Improve the resulting properties of the finished building mixture:

- Increase the resulting strength,
- improve rolling resistance and overall mechanical resistance,
- reduce water absorption and segregation,
- improve the water vapor permeability,
- increase frost resistance.

Types used

Duvilax BD-20 is a softened homopolymer PVAC dispersion. Its function is mainly suitable for indoor use. Its advantage is, in addition to availability and health safety, a relatively low cost.

Duvilax VV is a vinyl acetate and versate copolymer. It is used in construction in places exposed to climatic stress. Already 2% dispersion per cement / lime hydrate significantly improves the properties of building compounds. It ensures high adhesion of building compounds to the substrate (6 times higher than Duvilax VV mixtures). It allows the application of concrete screed in small thicknesses (already 10 mm). It strongly increases the resistance of concrete floors against rolling abrasion. It increases the flexible strength of concrete by more than 100% and pressure by more than 50%.

With regard to effect of Duvilax, it is necessary to realize that to achieve required processing level of fresh mortar, we will need considerably lower amount of water compared to mortar without admixture. To improve the adhesion of the mortar to the substrate, it is recommended to penetrate it with an aqueous solution of Duvilax before mortar application.

Other dispersions suitable as binders for plasters are Duvilax KA-11, Duvilax KA-9/50.

Penetration materials

The penetration, i.e. the impregnation of substrates with dispersion aqueous solutions, is carried out in order to increase the cohesion of the substrate, to increase bond strength when bonding the flooring materials, or coatings, improvement of adhesion before application of self-leveling beads, paints and the like (used for cement and gypsum based substrates). Penetration also serves as a partial protection against moisture on mineral substrates common on floor areas before screed application, and as a pre-coating prior to spraying and depositing surface treatments. Apart from equalizing the absorbency of non-re-absorbable surfaces, these surfaces also strengthen and reduce its dust levels. The aqueous solution, after drying, forms a polymer matrix in the pores of the substrate, the effects of which are favorable for the above-mentioned uses.
When using our dispersions, we recommend that you carefully read the instructions for use. The solution - white milk liquid should be thoroughly mixed. The application is carried out by a roller, brush or sprayer.

Depending on the ambient temperature and the absorbency of the penetrated material, the optimal drying time is within 1 to 2 hours. In principle, the penetration is sufficiently dried, when the solution changes its color from white to translucent, and when the penetrated surface is slightly tacky. The longer drying time of the penetration coating does not affect the quality of the operation performed.

Ground

The substrate must comply with applicable standards, must be solid, heavy, free of release particles and similar separating elements, and to be sufficiently course. Fresh overcoats must be ripened enough. Anhydrite overcoats with cohesionles surface or, eventually, with foamy film on a surface, must be ground and sucked off. Penetrations made from Duvilax are not suitable for metal and plastic substrates. With wood and chipboard bases etc. we do not recommend use on surfaces already built in (as risk of swelling due to Duvilax water).

Building adhesives

This is a group of products under the name of Duvilax, which is designed to bond materials that are firmly connected to a construction. They are used for gluing platic floor coverings, floor textiles, mosaic and lamellar parquet, ceramic tiles, paving, textile wallpaper and cork etc. Mostly, these are surface materials with a decorative and insulating effect.
The main advantage of Duvilax system dispersion adhesives is the achievement of high strength, high resistance to aging and health and hygiene safety. This property results from the use of water as a solvent in adhesive . There are no organic solvent vapours or other hazardous chemicals within the workplace. Cleaning of used tools or other contaminated surfaces is done using lukewarm water before the adhesive has dried.

Ground

An important factor in the bonding of surface materials is preparation. High emphasis is placed on the substrate to be treated before bonding. The substrate must comply with applicable technical standards. These are in particular cement and gypsum leveling layers, plasters, plasterboards etc, which have high or uneven absorption qualities. Therefore, before gluing itself we recommend to apply penetration coating, which will balance suction capacity, strengthen glued surface and at the same time increase rigidity of a joint. The surface must be clean, free of greasy stains or other defects. A very important requirement is the balance of the substrate, which affects not only the visual effect of the finished work but also the consumption of the adhesive. At the same time, it must be ensured that the moisture content of the substrate does not exceed 4% (when gluing parquet 2%).

Product range

Duvilax L-58  - Universal Building Adhesive
Mainly used for bonding ceramic and marble tiles and paving, polystyrene tiles, all types of linoleum, PVC and textile floorings to absorbent and non-absorbent substrates in the interior.
Adhesives can be applied to cement, gypsum and anhydrite leveling layers, plasters, plasterboard, chipboards, umakart, etc. The fundamental is to have at least one of the glued surfaces receive moisture. We do not recommend any treatment and dilution, except for the possibility of thickening if necessary (eg. when bonding the tiles) with sand and / or cement. Adhesive is applied on ideal smooth grounds, it is possible to paste also the new paving on the old one.
The adhesive is brown, as well as the dried film. For bonding tile elements, the adhesive is in accordance with EN 12004: 2002.
The strength of the joint generally exceeds the strength of the bonded materials and therefore it is no longer possible to make additional adjustments after about 1 hour.

Duvilax BD-20 - Universal Dispersion
Duvilax BD-20 is suitable for bonding glass-fibre wallpapers to walls and gluing decorative wallpapers with paper backing. If necessary, it can also be used for bonding tiles, but needs to be modified by adding cement and sand.

Instructions for gluing:
When gluing wallpapers, it is usually unnecessary to modify the adhesives. However, if it is too gloopy for some particular uses, it may be slightly diluted with water to achieve a more fluid consistency. However, we do not recommend the addition of water higher than 2-3%. Prior to bonding, we recommend that the cleaned wall be penetrated with a diluted Duvilax BD-20 at a ratio of 1: 5 (pour 1 kg of Duvilax into the bucket and make up to 6 l with clean water and mix thoroughly). Once the penetration has been done, the background is ready for gluing wallpapers. The adhesive is suitable for conventional plasters etc. Do not use it on substrates that do not absorb water (non-absorbent) .

Duvilax KA-4 - universal adhesive
Duvilax KA-4 is characterized by the fact that it produces a transparent, self-adhesive film on various substrates even on non-absorbent ones. Therefore, it can be used to fix carpet coverings on non-absorbent floors (against scrolling on the floor), to bond textile wallpapers to ceilings and various substrates (immediate effect), gluing large-area posters and wallpapers in interiors, gluing various decorative items and others. Due to the fact that Duvilax KA-4 is a pure dispersion without fillers, resins or other additives, it forms a thin transparent film and therefore requires the substrate to be completely straight before bonding.

The use
With regard to the type of glued joints, it is necessary to decide whether to apply the glue to both sides of the glued joint, or just one side. Two-sided loading creates a strong instantaneous contact. On a one-sided basis it will be weaker, but it is sufficient enough for eg. fixing carpets, sticking large posters etc.

If the substrate is unevenly or too absorbent, it must be prepared as before (penetration). The adhesive is applied by a roller or a brush into the substrate and allowed to dry almost (its color changes from milky white to clear, i.e. 30-60 minutes depending on the temperature and humidity of the environment). If it is necessary to achieve immediate high adhesion, we recommend applying the adhesive to both glued surfaces. After attaching and pressing, the bonded object is immediately and sufficiently fixed to the substrate.

WARNING!
All Duvilax adhesives are water-soluble in liquid form, but are practically insoluble in water after drying and are difficult to remove. Therefore, all contaminated surfaces and tools should be washed with lukewarm water before drying. This is especially true for Duvilax L-58 and KA-4!

Building and carpenter adhesives

Construction-joiner adhesives form a special group of adhesives. They are especially used to bond objects that are firmly connected to the structure - door frames, wood paneling, staircases, railings etc.

Where the glued material will be be placed determines the selection of adhesives. In the case of normal interiors without the presence of increased humidity or water, the D1 class according to EN 204 - Duvilax BD-5 is sufficient. If the humidity in the interior is even slightly increased, D2 - Duvilax Express LS or LS-50 adhesives are used. In case of increased stress with moisture or water (e.g. bathroom, kitchens, entrance doors, windows, attics, etc.) we recommend to use adhesive classified in the D3 class - Duvilax D3 Rapid.
